Modern Day Nationalism

  Nationalism is love of country. It is the consciousness of one race in having one religion, language, culture, history and values. Nationalism connotes pride of one's race.

  Many people fought for our freedom especially during the Hispanic period. Some of these heroes are Jose Rizal, Marcelo H. Del Pilar and Graciano Lopez Jaena who fought using their writings; and Emilio Aguinaldo, Andres Bonifacio and Emilio Jacinto who fought using arms. What I want to say is many people died for our country's freedom, love for our country is something we can do to show our gratitude to them.

  I can show my nationalism in simply doing what I am supposed to do as a good child, student and Filipino. In home,  I will do my daily chores and help my brothers in their homeworks. I will respect my parents by saying 'po and opo.' and doing what they want me to do. I will be hospitable to our guest; welcome them in our home, eating and talking with them. In school, I will listen to my teacher attentively. I will sing the National Anthem well by standing straight and sing. I will help my little schoolmates in carrying their bags. I will be a good leader to my classmates, I'll help them in their studies. I will be a good example to others and influence them to do better things. 

In social media such as Facebook and Twitter, I will like posts about Philippines like "It's more fun in the Philippines." and "TGIF Thank God I'm a Filipino." By liking and sharing them, I will show that I'm proud to be a Filipino. I will support OPM (Original Pilipino Music) before listening to K Pop and other foreign music. OPM tells us lots about our culture. I will share these music in various social media. In our community, I will participate in projects such as relief operations to help victims of flood. That is one trait that can be seen in most Filipinos, bayanihan. Obedience, obeying the laws is a simple way of showing my nationalism to my country. 

  There are lots of ways to show my nationalism in modern times. Not just only help myself show my nationalism but I will also help others to show nationalism. Showing your nationalism is showing and being proud that you're a Filipino. Doing these things just simple compared to what our national heroes have done.
